Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. Here’s exactly what data I collect, how I use it, and your rights regarding your information.

Comments

For newer articles: Comments are handled through Discourse, a forum platform. When you create an account or comment through Discourse, your data is processed according to both this privacy policy and Discourse’s privacy policy.

Discourse Data Collection: When you comment via Discourse, the following information may be collected: username, email address, IP address, browser information, and any content you post. Discourse provides users with the ability to download all their personal data and request deletion through their user profile.

For older articles: Some older articles still use WordPress’s default comment system. For these, I collect the data shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string for spam detection purposes.

All comment data is stored solely for the purpose of displaying comments and preventing spam. If you’d like your information deleted from either system, please contact me.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Privacy Tip: Most modern smartphones and cameras embed location data in photos. Consider removing this data before uploading images to protect your privacy.

Contact Forms

Contact forms are used on this website to allow easy communication between myself and readers. When you use a contact form, you consent to me storing your information.

What I collect: Your name and email address from contact forms.

Why I collect it: Solely to respond to your inquiry.

Data Retention: Contact form data is kept only as long as necessary to respond to your inquiry and any follow-up questions. If you’d like your information deleted, please contact me.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on the site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment.

Cookie Duration: These cookies will last for one year.

Your Choice: These cookies are optional and only saved if you choose to opt-in. You can clear them from your browser at any time.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you have visited the other website directly.

Third-Party Data Collection: These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

I have no control over how third-party embedded content collects or uses your data. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for more information.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with the content and to improve the user experience.

GDPR Compliance: All Google Analytics data is anonymized to remove potentially personally-identifying information such as IP addresses. This helps me understand site usage while protecting your privacy.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by using browser extensions or adjusting your browser settings.

Who I Share Your Data With

Simple answer: I don’t. Any data that is stored on BreatheSafeAir.com will not be shared with other people or websites.

Exception: The only exception is data processed through Discourse (for comments), which is handled according to their privacy policy and data processing agreements.

How Long I Retain Your Data

Comments: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows me to recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue, which helps prevent spam.

Contact Forms: Information from contact forms is retained only as long as necessary to respond to your inquiry.

Analytics: Anonymized analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ data retention policies.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

You have the right to request an exported file of all personal data that I have about you. You also have the right to request deletion of any data that I have stored on the website.

For WordPress Comments & Contact Forms: Contact me directly using the information below.

For Discourse Comments: You can download your data and request deletion through your Discourse user profile, or contact me for assistance.

This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
